Mayor and City Council
Post Falls has a Mayor-Council form of government consisting of six at-large Council members and a Mayor. Councilors are elected to a specific council seat and serve four-year terms. The Council elects a President from among its members. The Council President may stand in for the mayor as necessary.

The Council is the legislative and judicial arm of Post Falls’ City government; enacting ordinances and resolutions. This body confirms the Mayor’s appointments of City officials including department heads, and the City Administrator, as well as commission members. The Council approves the City’s annual budget.

Post Falls City Council meetings are held the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month at 6pm in the City Council Chambers at City Hall, 408 N. Spokane St. On the 3rd Tuesday of each month there is a 5pm Council Workshop (untelevised). Meetings are broadcast live on City Cable and are available as video on demand.

Form of Government
The City Council is an elected body whose primary function is to establish policy direction and make legislative decisions.

Term of Office
The mayor and the six councilors are elected to four-year terms.
Elections are held every two years, with three council seats up for election every two years. Council seats are numbered 1 through 6 and candidates for city council designate which seat they are seeking. (Numbered seats do not represent city districts, nor do candidates represent districts. All qualified city voters will vote on all city council candidates). The City Clerk oversees City elections.
